Miller House (Jevon)/ Heartwood Hall

2665 Raleigh-LaGrange Rd. Rossville, TN (near Somerville)

Circa 1840. 2-story Federal style with Greek Revival details


William Lord Miller (1801-1873) built the home in 1840 originally on about 5,000 acres. His wife was Sarah Coit Mumford Miller (1803-1885). They emigrated from North Carolina and wed in 1825. While there were a bunch of Miller children, several died in middle age and others lived in Memphis or in Arksansas.


The place was vacant and neglected for years. Dr. W. B. Cleveland was the latest owner with 25 acres remaining. Dr. Cleveland lived in Cleveland, OH. In 1975, Eugene Church leased the property from Dr. Cleveland.


In 2024, the Miller House was utilized as a wedding venue and is now called Heartwood Hall. It is part of Evergrove Estates special venue campuses whch include Heartwood Hall, Cedar Hall, The Ivy Tea Room, Cedar Hall's Bed & Breakfast and Sweet Magnolia Catering and Denise and John Suthoff own it. The home is part of the Elba community. NR 1978
