Jay Brothers

100 Catron Way (off Hwy 76) Somerville, TN

Circa 1890. 2-story Greek Revival home

Lucerne was built by Peter Booker Mosby (1851-1904) and Anna Davenport Blackwell Mosby (1864-1941). They married in 1889. It was on Brownsville Rd. in Brownsville, 5 miles northeast of Somerville. Mosby was a successful planter. Booker's parents were Joseph and Cornelia Booker of the Mosby-Booker House. The property was a wedding gift from the bride's parents and was once the center of a 950 acre plantation.

In 1904, Lee Fraser Catron (1878-1948) and Susan “Sue” Marie Turner Catron (1879-1959) purchased the plantation and called it Catron Place.

In 1962, Dr. (Mansel) Irvin Maulden (1916-1981) and Elise Catron Maulden (1918-2003) inherited the mansion with 105 of the 950 acres. They used the property as a weekend house. Dr. Maulden was an optometrist. In 1977, Elise still owned the property. She lived in Corinth, MS.

In 1997, Dr. Boyd Argo bought the property. He is a dentist practicing in East Memphis area. In 2024, Ethan Argo owned Lucerne Farms and it continues as a commercial nursery on 100 Catron Way in Somerville. NR1977 See Mosby-Booker House
