The Granville Babb Sprouse House is located at 205 West College St. in Greenbriar. Granville Babb Sprouse (1863-1947) and Delphia Briggs Sprouse (1869-1984) built the house in 1895 in Late Victorian style. The home was built on the highest point of the railroad line between Nashville and St. Louis. In 1896, Granville and his brother, John, opened the Sprouse factory (prizing house) for the local tobacco industry. Later, the tobacco market was stronger in Springfield so the operation was moved there.
In 1908, Granville became a stockholder in the tobacco warehouse G.B. Sprouse & Company and remained until 1922. In 1921, Granville was elected mayor of Springfield. In 1925, Granville helped organize and started on the board of directors of First National Bank. Since at least 1998, the house has been owned by the Greenbrier Historical Society. NRHP 1998
